“Sonic, I thought you were going to take me for a run.” Amy protested as Sonic prepared to leave. “We were, before Knuckles showed up. And now I think I should go see what Shadow’s really up to before someone gets hurt. Maybe some other time, Amy. Thanks for the lunch!” He called as he ran off. Amy reached out “wait!” but he was long gone. She sighed, “Well, on the bright side, I got closer to him than I ever have. If only Knuckles hadn’t shown up! Oh well. Next time I’ll try even harder!”

Meanwhile, onboard the ARK, Rouge had come up with a plan she hoped was just insane enough to work. If it failed, it would mean disaster. Making sure the coast was clear, she had left the bedroom and walked down the hall, opening unlocked doors as quietly as possible until she found what she was looking for: a soundproof room with equipment for making a televised broadcast. She set up the equipment and sat down on a chair on the opposite side of the room. When the camera started rolling, she began. “This is Rouge”…
Shadow stood by one of the ARK’s many windows, gazing into space. Who am I?… Suddenly behind him a screen opened up on the wall. “This is Rouge. I’m leaving this message for Shadow the hedgehog to tell him that I am no longer onboard the ARK. I have found an escape vessel and returned to Earth. I am telling you this so that I can talk to you face to face back on Earth, where there are witnesses, in case something should go wrong. I do not have the information you seek, but I do have something you want.” At that, she held up the picture she had found. Shadow’s eyes widened That girl…she looks so familiar… Rouge continued, “I will not set up a rendezvous point, in case this is intercepted. But when I see you again, I need to talk to you. See you back on Earth, Shadow the hedgehog.” With that, the screen turned off and went back into the wall. Shadow glared at where the screen had been, and took out his chaos emerald. Rouge! When I see her again, she will give me the information she’s hiding! And she’ll also tell me about that girl in the picture. His emerald started to glow. Outside the room Shadow was in, Rouge peeked in and saw her moment. As Shadow began to disappear, Rouge ran into the room and leapt at Shadow, who looked at her with surprise and anger. She grabbed his ankle just as he chaos controlled to Earth.

Tails had decided to take a walk, and was walking through a meadow when he saw a blue streak heading his way. He waved, and Sonic stopped. “Tails, how’s it goin?”. Before Tails had time to reply, a light appeared between them and Shadow appeared, Rouge still clinging to his ankle. Not noticing Sonic and Tails, he grabbed Rouge around the neck and lifted her off the ground. Rouge struggled to get his fingers off her throat, but he wouldn’t budge. She could still breath and still speak, and he wasn’t letting go. “Now,” he began, “tell me everything!” Rouge opened her mouth to protest, when Sonic spoke up, “Shadow, drop Rouge at once!” Out of the corner of her eye, Rouge saw Sonic jump into the air, roll into a ball, and slam right into Shadow, making him release Rouge, who fell onto her broken wing. She gave a cry of pain and Tails hurried over. He grabbed her arm and helped her up. “Sonic, I’m taking Rouge to the hospital.” With that, he and Rouge ran off. Shadow began to run after them, but Sonic stepped in his way. “I don’t know why you’re trying to hurt Rouge, or what you’re after, but you’re not going anywhere until I get some answers!”
Shadow grinned and held up his chaos emerald. Sonic realized that Shadow was going to stop time and run after them, and Sonic had to stop him. Taking out his own chaos emerald, he grinned right back. “Chaos” Shadow began, holding his emerald up “control!” Sonic finished, holding his own emerald up. Both gems gleamed brightly in the sunlight, and for a second, nothing happened. Then a swirling vortex opened above their heads, and they jumped away from it. That vortex…it looks so familiar…Sonic thought, before something fell out of it. As the vortex closed, Sonic and Shadow looked down at the white hedgehog as he sat up, rubbing his head. He looked up at Sonic, then at Shadow, then stood and faced them both.
“I’m Silver. Silver the hedgehog.”
