The Beginning

“Kirby? Kirby, where are you?” Tiff called as she searched the many hallways of castle DDD. “Kirby? Hey, if you can hear me, say something Kirby!” Tuff called.
They met up in a hallway. “Any sign of Kirby?” Tiff asked. Tuff shook his head. “Where could he be?” She wondered aloud. Just then, she saw something behind her brother and called out “Meta Knight!”
The star warrior approached the siblings and Tiff asked “hey, have you seen Kirby anywhere?” “No,” he replied, “but I have also not seen Dedede.” “That’s not good!” Tuff said, “now what do we do?” “I’ll tell you what we’re gonna do,” Tiff replied, “we’re going to find Dedede and make him talk!” The three of them ran towards the monster-delivery room.
Kirby had, in fact, accidentally wandered into Meta Knight’s bedroom. The pink creature looked around it, occasionally uttering a “poyo?” He was lost in the castle. He had never been in this area before, and he didn’t know if anybody even lived down here, but apparently Meta Knight did. As Kirby looked around the room, he noticed an old, tattered book. He grabbed it, sat down on the floor, and began to read…

      Day 1:

I write this by firelight. This is my account of my fight against Nightmare and his armies. For if I should fall, then another must come forth to fight this evil and free the galaxy from his clutches!
I suppose I should start at the very beginning. I was created by a monster; a living nightmare. That was his name, Nightmare, and he is a powerful and horrific beast. He spends his time creating monsters and sending them all over the universe to kill and wreck havoc.
I am one of these monsters. Yet, I am different from the others. I have a conscious and feelings, while the monsters are senseless killing machines. I do not know if this was intended or accidental, and I will probably never know.
One of Nightmare’s armies, myself included, were planning to destroy a large area called Quixmos on the planet Rolfred. It was a small army, only two thousand soldiers, and it was to be my first time out. I was equipped with a sword and whip. When we arrived, all the people (they were called Quixers) began to shriek and flee. I stood in the front line, watching all the people scramble. Many other monsters were laughing, but I did not see the humor in it. One monster yelled “charge!” and the army swarmed down into the tiny village.
I had not moved, and the army had paid no heed to my actions. After all, they were mindless. As I stood there, paralyzed, my brethren slaughtered, ate, destroyed and burned the whole village in a short amount of time. Was I supposed to help those soldiers kill? I could not do it. These were merely innocent people, they did not deserve to die.
By the time the town was ablaze, I was able to move. As I walked through the burning town, I felt sick. There were no survivors. All the men, women and children were killed by my fellow soldiers for no reason. As I continued to walk, I heard a trumpet sound in the distance. Nightmare was coming to check on the destruction. I turned and saw the army align themselves into two straight rows, creating an isle. At one end was myself; on the other was Nightmare. He drifted towards me and asked me why I was not in line. I remained as calm as I could, knowing that for something as simple as not following an order I could be killed. “Master,” I questioned, “why did we have to kill those people?” At this, he laughed and said that I did not need to know the reasons, even if there were any. Then he ordered me back into line, yet I stood where I was and replied “no! I refuse to kill!” Nightmare scowled, turned, and drifted back several yards, then turned to face me. I braced myself, prepared to die. “If you refuse to kill,” he told me, “then let’s see how well you fare if you have to kill in order to survive! Attack!” At his command, the army (which had remained motionless) charged at me. I unsheathed my sword and had my whip ready. The closest monster was a gigantic ogre named Gutsquash. He advanced, swinging his spiked club, which I met with my sword. However, he was faster than he looked, and before I knew it my sword was out of my hand and was caught by another monster (a brown scaly beast with black wings). I threw my whip, and most of it looped around Gutsquash’s body, tying up his arms, which made him drop his weapon. Yet I underestimated his strength, and he broke free, destroying my whip.
I was defenseless against an army of monsters! As I looked over the enemy lines before me, I realized that Nightmare had left. He didn’t care whether I lived or not. As the army advanced, one thought came into my mind: stay alive! I turned and ran into what was left of the town, the army close behind. I soon found a house slightly intact and ran inside it. Immediately after I shut the door I heard the monsters run past. When I was certain that they had all left, I ran back the way I had came until I found some woods and a deserted burrow underneath a tree, where I hid until sunset. At that time, I went out to gather some firewood and soon had a small fire going. I knew it was risky, but I needed a fire to keep alive in the cold nights on this planet. As I sat by the fire, many questions formed in my mind: ‘Why? Why me? Why do I have a conscious? Am I an experiment? Are there others like me; others who got away? Also, now what to do? I have no home, food, water or weapons. No creature on any planet would give me food or shelter, since I am a Nightmare monster. Yet why did I want to stay alive so badly. Not to long ago I was prepared to die. Yet I  did all in my power to stay alive.’ Then it came to me: destroy Nightmare! I was going to destroy Nightmare and his monster armies! The odds were against me, but if I could find others out there who want peace through the galaxies (and I know there are many who do), I might have a chance. Also, it would prove that, even though I was created from and for evil, I am different from those other monsters!
As I sat by the fire, I realized that nobody was going to even try to resist Nightmare, not without a courageous leader. What better leader than one who knows the enemy almost as well as he knows himself? Me! I will be their leader. It was then that I realized something: I had no name. My monster name was Sword-Whip due to my previous weapons. I needed a new name.
I have finally figured it out. I will become a knight. Yet I will also be more than a knight; I will be more than any knight ever was, is, or will ever be.
                                                                I will be Meta-Knight.
