Misconception: Recovery
Ch.3
By the time Shadow had arrived back at the hospital, Tails and Rouge had fled.
He was skating towards the building, when he noticed that the hole he had created was gone. Deciding to make a quieter entrance, he came in through the front door and headed up to where he had last been. He kicked open the door to Rouge’s room and saw nothing but an empty bed.

After Knuckles had left, Rouge decided that she was no longer safe in the hospital. Shadow could come again at any time, and these doctor’s couldn’t hope to stop him. And I’m sitting in a room on the second floor with a broken wing…I gotta get outta here! She left her room and was on the ground floor when she heard 2 nurses talking about a 2-tailed fox who was recovering from several wounds. Rouge realized that they were talking about Tails, and decided to go see him. She came into his room and found him lying in bed, awake but in pain from the wounds inflicted by Shadow. He had a medical tape around his forehead, and when he sat up after noticing Rouge, and the blanket fell off him, she could see a bandage across his midsection. “Rouge, are you alright?” Rouge glanced behind her at her wing, still broken but healing underneath some medical tape and nodded. “I’ll be fine. But who did this to you?” Tails explained the whole situation with Shadow attacking everybody and believing them to be the ones back on the ARK 50 years ago. When he finished, Rouge grabbed his hand and pulled him out of bed. “Rouge, what’s going on?” Tails asked worriedly as they left the hospital, still bandaged up. “We’re getting to safety. Knuckles and Silver, the white hedgehog,” Rouge explained, noticing Tails’ confused expression, “went after Shadow. He’s still after me, and he’s after you as well. Those doctors and nurses couldn’t do a thing to stop Shadow, and we’d be sitting ducks back there. We’ll go into the city-there are many places to hide…”
And Shadow will never find us

Knuckles and Sonic had landed near the outskirts of a different city, one that Sonic had passed by on a few runs, and knew that it was quite a distance from the one with Tails and Rouge. He told this to Knuckles, who growled in anger. That Shadow! Knuckles thought he planned this from the start. He knew I was going to jump into his chaos control, so he decided to make us appear here: many miles away from the ones that need our help! He looked at Sonic, still wounded and in no condition to fight should Shadow return. “C’mon,” he said, helping Sonic to his feet, “we’ll get you to a-” “Sonic!” Sonic and Knuckles turned and saw Amy running towards them, waving. Sonic tried to back up, almost tripped, and Knuckles caught him and held him up. Sonic braced himself, waiting for Amy to run up and hug him hard, possibly injuring him more. However, she slowed to a stop and looked him up and down. “Sonic,” there was sympathy in her voice, “who did this to you?” “Shadow,” Knuckles replied, “and I need to get him to a hospital. But Rouge and Tails are far away, and Shadow’s after them as well.” “Lave it to me,” Amy said, taking Sonic’s arm, “I’ll take him to a hospital. You go help Rouge and Tails. And if you see Shadow, tell him he’d better watch out, cause he’s gonna pay for hurting Sonic!” Knuckles nodded and ran off and Amy turned to Sonic “now, to get you to a hospital…” “Amy, I’m fine. I don’t need a hospital, all I need is a couch.” Amy smiled “I came here to do some shopping, and I’m glad I did. Now I get to help you. C’mon, we can go to this place I know of, it’s close and you can relax.” Sonic smiled and together they headed towards the city.

Shadow was closer to Tails and Rouge than he realized; he was following them using his chaos emerald to locate Tails’.
Tails had, however, anticipated this and left his emerald deep in a dumpster in an alleyway. Then, he and Rouge had climbed the fire escape of a nearby building and watched for any signs of Shadow. They didn’t have long to wait; he came only a few minutes after they had disposed of the emerald. They watched as Shadow knocked the dumpster on its side and saw the emerald fall out. He picked it up and glanced around before looking up and right into Tails’ eyes. “C’mon!” Tails said, grabbing Rouge’s arm and flying towards another building while Shadow ran up the fire escape they had earlier climbed. Being injured, Tails could only hold Rouge for a short time, and had to land on the nearest building. Looking back, they saw Shadow on the roof they were just on. In the blink of an eye, he was gone and appeared right in front of Tails, who took a step back, shocked. Shadow turned and grabbed Rouge’s arm tightly. She flinched in pain. “Tell me the truth!” Shadow commanded. “You let her go!” Tails yelled and swung his tails under Shadow’s feet, tripping him and making him release Rouge, who Tails immediately clasped hands with and flew off again, this time landing in the heart of the city. Shadow watched them disappear into the city. You can’t run forever! He thought with a smirk, holding up his chaos emerald. The gem gleamed in the sunlight and Shadow was gone.
