Ch.4

Blossom and Buttercup awoke when the rising sun hit their eyes. Buttercup yawned and stretched while Blossom jumped off the cold bench they had slept on. “C’mon,” she said, “Him said he’d give us time, but he didn’t say how much. We should get a move on.” Buttercup yawned again “alright.” and followed Blossom as they headed towards Morebucks Manor.

Inside, Princess was deciding what to wear when the doorbell rang. One of her butlers would answer it, she was sure of that. However a few minutes later there was a knock on her door. “Princess?” It was one of her butlers, “there are two girls here to see you.” “Let them in,” she said. The door opened and Blossom and Buttercup walked into her room. “So,” Princess sneered, “finally changed your mind and decided to let me be a Powerpuff girl after all?” “Not quite.” Blossom replied. “Of course that’s why, why else would you be here?” Princess scoffed. Buttercup had had enough “just give us the next clue, duncess!” Princess raised her nose in the air “hah! I’m not giving you girls anything unless I get what I want!” Buttercup growled at her and Blossom put a hand on her sister’s shoulder. She turned to Princess “we’ll let you be a temporary Powerpuff girl for one day. In exactly 24 hours you can no longer be a Powerpuff girl. If you have stopped crimes and saved the town, we’ll consider making you an honorary member of our team. In exchange, we’ll need the next clue.” Princess smiled “of course! Wait here!” and ran out of the room. Buttercup turned to her sister “what was that all about? You swore she’d never be part of our team!” “It’s the only way, Buttercup. Do you want to save the Professor or not?” Buttercup sighed and Princess came back in the room. She handed a slip of paper to Blossom. “Here it is.” “Thanks!” Blossom said, taking the paper and leading Buttercup out of the manor.

Once outside they kept walking until they were out of sight of the place. They were just about to read the next clue when they heard a cry of joy. Looking up they saw Princess flying around in her supersuit. Buttercup glared up at her and Blossom brought her back to Earth “the clue.” she said. Buttercup looked over at Blossom “yeah” and together they read:

You girls are doing just fine

But was it smart to let Princess fight crime?

What’s done is done, and now for the next

For clue number 6 you’ll have to be your best.

The Amoeba Boys have the next clue

But getting this one won’t be easy to do.

They’ve gone and hidden the thing that you need

And getting it back will be difficult in deed.

The clock quickly ticks, but you already knew

You’ll be out of time before I’m through!

So lets just keep playing-I think its fun!

If you make it in time, then you’ve won!

“Blossom looked up and turned to Buttercup “we don’t have much time, c’mon!” They began to run through town when Buttercup asked “do you think we even have time for this? Him wrote that we’ll fail anyway.” “Don’t believe him, he’s just trying to get us to give up. We have plenty of time!” They continued to run through town, occasionally seeing Princess flying through the sky.

After a few hours of searching they finally found the Amoeba Boys standing infront of a mattress store. “Amoeba boys, there you are.” Blossom said, running up to them. They turned and Bossman spoke up “aw, da Powerpuff Girls. Tryin to stop our latest crime, eh? Well, not this time.” “What plan?” Blossom asked. This time Slim spoke up “we was gonna go in da mattress store and rip all of da ‘do not remove under penalty of law’ um…things.” Bossman nodded “yeah, and there aint nothin yous can do to stop us!” “Amoeba boys,” Blossom quickly spoke up, “did you have a piece of paper recently? Where did you put it?” The Amoeba Boys stared at her and for a while there was silence. Then Junior spoke up “I think I remember we’s had a piece of paper. Didn’t somebodies tell us to hide it?” “Yeah, I think they did,” Bossman replied. Then there was silence for another long time until Buttercup finally asked “so where’d you hide it?” “Hide what?” Bossman replied. “The piece of paper!” Buttercup yelled back. Bossman looked over at Slim and Junior “did we have a piece of paper?” Buttercup cried out in frustration and Blossom perked up “we’re going about this the wrong way. Amoeba boys, before you went to the mattress store, where were you? “ The Amoeba Boys thought for a moment when Junior spoke up “we was under a bridge.” “Do you remember which bridge?” Blossom quickly asked. They shook their heads. “That’s good enough for me,” Blossom said, “Buttercup you look around all the bridges on the left side of town, I’ll cover the right side. We’ll meet in Townsville park after the sun has set” “Do you think that’s enough time?” “Sure of it, now let’s go!”

The rest of the day they spent searching under all the bridges of Townsville. Finally, they met up again in Townsville park. The sun had set awhile ago and the only light they had was the moon and stars. Bare trees, dead from the autumn and the drought, swayed in an icy breeze. Blossom shivered as Buttercup ran up to her, holding a piece of paper “I found it!” Blossom smiled “good, now lets take a look at it.” and once again, under the night sky they read the clue:

You girls are doing better than planned

But be warned, far worse it as hand.

I believe the time is right

To see your sister whom you lost that night.

She and Mojo hold the next clue

And like the last it won’t be easy to do.

You’re nearing the end, in both the game and the time

So be quick to get my next rhyme.

The next clue will be your last

And then you can go and finish your task

However, a warning I must give you heroes

The chances of you living are near close to zero.

Please know I don’t expect you to win

This isn’t a contest I put you in.

I merely wanted to have some fun

Before your precious lives are done.

And for the Professor, don’t fret over him

Although his chances are looking quite dim.

You’ll need a miracle to get by in time

Rescuing the Professor, solving the rhyme.

Your luck ends here, go and face your fate

Maybe you’ll die, maybe you’ll escape.

I won’t know until you do

And if so, I have the Professor for you!

The girls had begun to run towards the volcano while reading the clue. They were about to climb the stairway when Blossom stopped. “Wait a minute Buttercup, we’re doing this all wrong! If we go and face Mojo now we’ll never make it. C’mon, we need to get back home!” “What’re you talking about red? Mojo has Bubbles; Him has the Professor, we don’t have time to run all the way back home!” “Just trust me on this: we have enough time.” Buttercup sighed and together they set out across the city.
