Misconception: revenge

Ch.7

Rouge looked up at Shadow “I don’t remember anything about that document…except that it didn’t make much sense of you.” “You’re lying.” “I swear Shadow, I don’t know anything about that document…it was so long ago…I don’t remember it at all.” Shadow raised his arm, his hand sparkling with electricity and Rouge turned away, bracing for the attack…

It never came. Rouge opened her eyes to find Shadow on his knees, his hands covering his head, cringing in pain. “Shadow…” Rouge said, standing. Shadow didn’t show any recognition that he had heard her. Rouge stood over him, wondering what to do.

I was running with a young girl…actually, I was leading her down what seemed to be an endless hallway…we were being perused by several government agents…

Suddenly I was in an escape pod, and the girl, whom I treasured dearly, was not with me. Instead, she was outside the escape pod, near the controls to it, setting it for launch. I was going to Earth, but she wasn’t, and I wanted to stay with her. I banged on the glass, hoping to break free, but the container did not yield. I shouted for her to escape with me, but she merely shook her head, tears forming in her eyes…

Before either of us could do anything, the door slid open, and there stood the gunman with the green eyes. Somehow, he looked smaller than before, but nonetheless he pointed his gun at my friend and spoke for the first time “Stop. Don’t pull that lever!” His voice sounded very familiar, but before I could register it in my mind, my friend shook her head at the officer, who replied “I’m warning you-STOP!” . Then she looked at me with those tear-filled eyes, and I new I would never see her again…

                                                     “Saranoya, Shadow the hedgehog”
                                                                         *bang*

The capsule was launched, and in my final moments onboard the ARK, my own home, I saw the military take down the only true friend I had ever known.

Shadow woke with a start, and the visions from his dream melted away into oblivion. He stood and looked around before he remembered…Rouge! She was hiding information from me! I had her and I let her get away! Curse these visions! If they’re trying to make me remember my past, then why do the details of it always slip through my grasp! He glanced around for any sign of where Rouge had gone, then took off. She couldn’t hide forever…this was his old home, and he knew every inch of the place. She was going to answer him, even if it was the last thing she ever did…

Meanwhile, Rouge was running down one of the ARK’s many hallways, looking for a place to hide. Shadow wanted information she didn’t have, and he wasn’t going to listen to reason. She was going to have to use all of her cunning and skill just to get off this deathtrap floating in space.

As she ran, she passed many doors, most of which were locked. She needed to find a good place to hide, or Shadow would find her before she could come up with a plan. She didn’t dare to try and contact GUN; any communication would be too much noise. The minute she had decided to try and hide before Shadow got up, she turned off her communicator.

No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t keep her shoes from making a loud *click-clack* sound on the floor. If nothing else, it was just a tracking device for Shadow to use. I gotta find a place to hide…fast! She suddenly stopped and listened. From very far away, but getting closer every second was the sound of Shadow’s shoes skating across the floor. He would be here any minute! Rouge quietly walked over to the nearest door and tried it-locked. Shadow was gaining, there was no time left to run. She pushed against the door and it opened a bit. It wasn’t locked after all-just stuck. As Shadow came closer and closer, Rouge desperately tried to push it open. The door suddenly opened, and Rouge hurried inside, closing the door behind her. Being a bat, her eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness and she noticed the outlines of several objects in the room. Sinking to the floor, she breathed a sigh of relief; she was safe-for now. She sat on the floor, waiting for her heartbeat to slow, when she heard Shadow skate by…and stop.

She held her breath and waited. Suddenly something banged into the steel door with enough force to dent it. Jumping up, Rouge fled behind one of the objects in the room. She crouched down just as the door was kicked open and Shadow entered the room. He stood there for what seemed like forever, then turned and skated down the hall. Rouge walked to the door and looked out; Shadow was nowhere in sight. She began to walk out of the room, then stopped and went back inside.

With the light coming in from the hallway, she could see the room she was just in. It was a small bedroom consisting of two beds and a nightstand, which held a picture. Rouge picked up the picture, wiped the dust off, and gasped: it was a picture of Shadow, smiling up at a young girl, who was smiling down at him. The girl had one hand on his shoulder, and they both looked so happy together. Rouge stood in the room, holding the picture. Could this picture be the key to unlocking Shadow’s past?
