Ch.12
Tails could only watch as Sonic was submerged underneath several tons of water. For the young fox, time seemed to have frozen; every second seemed like a whole minute, until he was almost positive that Sonic had been underwater for well over a hour, when in reality it had only been a little over a minute. The robot continued to pour water into the pit, and it was almost overflowing; soon Tails would join his pal in a watery grave. In the air, Eggman sat and watched, very amused that things had worked out so perfectly. Tails tried to hold back his tears, yet they came. He glared up at Eggman “how could you!” “Easy,” the doctor replied, “the hedgehog can’t swim, so I dumped him in water. Or more specifically, I dumped the water on him.”
Tails was about to yell at Eggman again when he felt something wet. Looking down, he realized the water was starting to overflow and soak through the netting, which held firm. Tails started to struggle against the netting and lost his balance; he tottered on the edge, and was about to fall head first into the water-filled pit when he was stopped by an invisible force. He was lifted into the air and slowly started to float away from the water. As he was lowered to the ground he looked up and found himself face to face with the white hedgehog he saw earlier. Tails wasted no time “you’ve gotta help Sonic! He’s underwater, and he can’t swim!” The white hedgehog lowered him to the ground, then immediately ran towards the water. He stopped when the water hit his feet and he focused his energy. The robot continued to pour water into the already filled pit. Eggman was watching the events unfold, curious as to who this newcomer was.
Sonic’s unconscious body slowly rose out of the water and floated into the woods where it was lowered next to Tails. Silver headed for them when a voice stopped him “How dare you try to stop me!” Silver looked behind him and jumped out of the way just as one of the robots ‘legs’ landed right where he was. The robot had stopped pouring water, however the excess began to fill the new hole. Silver landed near the robot and focused his powers again. The robot went rigid and lifted right off the ground. Eggman was speechless as the white hedgehog sent the robot hurdling toward him. The robot crashed into the cockpit and the resulting explosion destroyed both the robot and the cockpit and sent Eggman falling onto the other side of the pit, where he lay unconscious. Silver walked back to Tails, who was leaning over Sonic. Using his psychokenisis, Silver was able to extract the water from Sonic’s lungs. Sonic sat up, coughing “t-thanks Silver.”

Knuckles and Rouge had arrived at the hospital safely, and now the echidna was standing guard outside her room, which was on the second story. For a while, there had been nothing but silence and the occasional paging for a doctor. Sometimes a nurse or doctor would come walking down the hall, but most of the time (like right now), it was deserted.
The silence was shattered when a nearby wall broke open. Knuckles coughed in the settling dust and shielded his gaze from the sunlight suddenly pouring in, then recognized and glared at the intruder. Shadow stood in the opening, silhouetted by the sunlight. He looked around before noticing Knuckles. “Where is she?” He then noticed the door behind Knuckles and smirked. Knuckles realized that Shadow knew where Rouge was recovering and stood in front of the door, prepared to fight.

Tails was supporting Sonic and Silver was leading the way out of the woods. They had put a small distance between them and the wood when Silver suddenly stopped. “What’s wrong…uh?” Tails began. “Silver. And I sense something’s wrong.” “Silver…but, how can you be sure that something is wrong?” Tails asked. “I sensed when Sonic was in trouble…but we’re not moving fast enough. We won’t make it in time.” Sonic spoke up for the first time since Silver saved him, “Yes we will.” He held up his blue chaos emerald. “Sonic…no! You’re not strong enough…not now.” Tails said. “I don’t care! Shadow’s going to kill Rouge if we do nothing! Knuckles can only hold him off for so long…” Sonic began, and without waiting for another argument, he activated the chaos control, and in a flash of light they were gone.
Shadow and Knuckles were fighting and had just ran into each other and jumped away. Shadow was still good to fight, but Knuckles was slowly loosing his strength. As the echidna regained his breath, Shadow started to charge. Before he could reach Knuckles however, a flash of light appeared between them and Sonic, Tails and Silver appeared. “Shadow…” Silver began, before he felt something strange. Reaching behind him, he took out the green, white and light blue chaos emeralds. Tails looked at him, shocked “How’d you get three emeralds?” Silver explained “one is mine, one I took from Shadow and the other from Eggman when he fainted.” The emeralds continued to glow. “The emeralds react when they are near other emeralds” Tails said, taking out the yellow emerald. Sonic took out the blue emerald. Knuckles took out the purple and red emeralds. “We have all seven emeralds…”Sonic began, before they were enveloped in a flash of light…
