“Knuckles, what are you doing here? And Tails and Rouge?” Amy asked as the group approached. “Where’s Sonic?” Knuckles asked. “Sonic, oh-he’s in here. C’mon, I’ll take you to him.” She led them inside the building, which was lined from wall to wall with restaurants and stores and benches to relax on. “This is my favorite mall to shop at,” Amy said, leading the way to Sonic. Knuckles looked behind him and noticed Rouge dreamily gazing into a jewelry store window. He walked over and grabbed her wrist and pulled her away from the shop, grumbling.
Sonic was on a bench not to far from the entrance. He waved as they walked over. “Hey guys. Glad to see you’re ok.” “You too” Tails answered. “Where’s Shadow?” Sonic and Amy asked at the same time, to which Tails responded “we don’t know. The last we saw of him he was about to fight with Silver. What we do know is that he didn’t follow us.” Sonic looked relieved, which cheered Amy up. Meanwhile, just outside the building, Fang readied himself…

Shadow and Silver appeared in an old room. Before Shadow got a good look around the place, Silver grabbed his hand that held the chaos emerald and demanded “quick, use chaos control to freeze time! This place is under high surveillance!” Shadow nodded and did as he was told. “We have 2 minutes-no longer! So you’d better start talking.” “Two minutes is long enough, I hope. Anyway, if you look around, you’ll notice that this is a jail cell. Not just any jail cell-the cell where Professor Robotnik was kept until his execution.” “He was killed?” “Yes. He was blamed for the ‘accident’ on the ARK, and executed. If you look around at the walls, you’ll see he did much before his death. They are inscribed with his works. Anyway” he took out an old notebook and handed it over to Shadow, who opened it and began to read while Silver continued, “I found his old journal when he was kept in here. It will tell you the rest of what happened. After you escaped the ARK, the government locked you up in Prison Island, yet Professor Robotnik had yet to complete you. If you continue to read that journal, you’ll find that over time he went insane over what had happened, and reprogrammed you to seek revenge on those responsible. The rest of it you already know. You can keep that journal. I must be going. Back to my own time. Besides, our two minutes is almost up.” With that, he took out his own chaos emerald. They both held up their emeralds and chanted ‘Chaos control!’. The vortex opened and Silver prepared to leave, before Shadow stopped him. “Why did you help me?” Silver thought for a moment before answering, “I didn’t want anybody getting hurt over false pretenses. Also…no one should be left in the dark about their own life. You now know the truth. I must be going, yet we might meet again someday.” Shadow looked down at the journal in his hand and looked back up at Silver, smiling. “Thank you.” Silver grinned back and jumped into the vortex. Shadow looked once more around the cell and followed Silver.
The security cameras only caught a second on tape of two hedgehogs in a cell before it was empty again.

Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles and Rouge were sitting on a long bench chatting and relaxing when several gunshots sounded and a line of bullets appeared over the friends. Looking over by the entrance, they saw Fang holding a pistol in each hand, both barrels smoking. He was grinning and there was an evil gleam in his eyes. Fang advanced towards Sonic and the others, ignoring the other people running out of the place. Knuckles grabbed Sonic and hoisted him on his back and ran, with Tails, Amy and Rouge quickly behind, into an empty shoe store. Sonic was put down on a cushioned bench at the far end of the shop, and the other four stood their ground in front of him. Another gunshot rang out, followed by a howl of pain from Sonic. The bullet had penetrated his already injured leg. Amy took off her ribbon and tied it around the wound to slow the bleeding, then stood with the others in front of Sonic. Fang approached and stopped a few feet from them, still grinning, one gun locked on Sonic from between Knuckles and Amy, the other at his side ready to fire at the slightest sign of movement. “Sonic,” Fang said, “Dr. Eggman’s paying a hefty price for you, and I’m here to seal the deal.” “You’ll never hurt Sonic!” Amy said, taking a step closer to Fang, who immediately raised his other gun to lock on her. “Give me a reason,” he teased, “I dare you.” No one moved an inch, except for Sonic grimacing in pain behind them, which got Fang’s attention again. “Hurt, doesn’t it? However, I can make all the pain go away. All you have to do is surrender.” “I’ll never surrender to you, nor Eggman!” Fang smirked and aimed one gun at Sonic. “I’ll make this quick…just one bullet…”
Suddenly a bright light appeared behind Fang and Shadow appeared with it…
